October 12, 2007 SIU Med School Offers “Healthy Living” Program A six-week program, Journey to Healthy Living, is being offered this fall in Springfield by the Department of Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The program is designed for adults who have on-going or chronic health conditions and need help in managing their overall health. Individuals who can benefit from the program include those with asthma, diabetes, heart or lung disease, high blood pressure, stroke, depression, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer and obesity. The program focuses on working with the health care team, dealing with fatigue and frustration, relaxing and handling stress, eating healthy, setting goals for better health, using medications effectively and increasing energy levels. It was developed by Stanford University and now is used internationally. SIU staff trained for the program conducts the workshop meetings. The program meets 2 - 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, October 18 to November 29, in the SIU Clinics Building, 751 N. Rutledge, Springfield. Registration is required. The fee is $10. Free parking is available in the Baylis-SIU Clinics parking garage, accessible at Rutledge and Miller Streets.
