Two from SIU School of Medicine have received national honors

Sonja McGrath, assistant to the chair of obstetrics and gynecology and department administrator, was elected to a one-year term as president of the Association of Managers of Gynecology and Obstetrics at its annual meeting in San Diego last fall.  The association provides an educational and collegial network for administrators of obstetrics and gynecology departments at U.S. and Canadian medical schools to improve academic and clinical administration.

McGrath joined SIU in 1999.  She worked for 27 years as a nurse in labor and delivery and maternal child home health.  She earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield (1993), her bachelor’s from the College of St. Francis in Joliet (1987) and her nursing degree from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield (1974). 

Radmila Bogdanich, assistant to the chair of psychiatry and department administrator, received the President’s Award from the Administrators in Academic Psychiatry (AAP) at their annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., in April.   Bogdanich received the award for her long-term commitment and contributions to the organization.  AAP is a professional organization that provides education and networking opportunities for administrators of psychiatry programs in academic settings. 

Bogdanich joined SIU in 1994.  Previously, she was on staff at the Illinois Department of Public Health.  She earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield (1984) and her bachelor’s from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. (1971).
