Four from SIU School of Medicine recently received professional honors –

Dr. Gary Johnson, professor, Christopher Rector, LAN administrator, both in obstetrics and gynecology, and Cheryl Ashburn, curriculum development specialist in medical education, have been honored with the Web Site of Excellence award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.  The award is given to the Web site for medical student clerkship that is comprehensive, well organized and easy to navigate.  This is the third consecutive time they have received the award.

Johnson joined the SIU faculty in 2008.  He completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center (1993).  He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Wisconsin (1990) and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine (1986) and earned his bachelor’s at Washburn University (1977).

Rector came to SIU in June 2000 and received his bachelor’s from Eckerd College (1994).  Ashburn came to SIU in March of 2006 and received her master’s of nursing degree from the University of Phoenix (2006).

Nancy Calvert, director of financial aid, has received the Illinois Association of State Financial Aid Administrators (ILASFAA) Meritorious Service Award for 2009 for exceptional and exemplary service to colleagues and students in Illinois.   She also received the State Leadership Award for 2009 from the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators for her contributions to the financial aid profession at the state and regional levels.  She received both awards at the ILASFAA meeting in March in Schaumburg. 

Calvert joined the School in 1979.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Northern Illinois University (1970).

She and her husband, Jerry Calvert, live in Rochester.
