October 23, 2008 SIU School of Medicine Employees Honored for Service Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has honored more than 120 employees this fall in Carbondale, Decatur, Quincy and Springfield, for a total of 2,270 years of service. Thirty-year awards went to Nancy Calvert, planning coordinator in student affairs; Gail Clark, accountant in the comptroller’s office; Jon Holcomb, director of research services (retired); David G. King, Ph.D., associate professor in anatomy (Carbondale); Jeanie Marsaglia, purchasing officer; Cheryl McGill, director of patient business services with SIU Physicians & Surgeons; Shirley J. McGlinn, instructor in MEDPREP (Carbondale); Connie Pillsbury, health care administrator in surgery; Leslie Randolph, office support specialist in the Center for Alzheimer Disease; Dr. David E. Steward, professor and chair of internal medicine; Mary Stjern, program services specialist in psychiatry; and Nancy S. Zimmers, director of communications and public affairs. Twenty-five year awards went to Marianne Agans, administrative aide in capital planning and service operations; Richard Herndon, business manager in pharmacology; Durinda Meyer, licensed practical nurse in family and community medicine (Quincy); Dr. Debra M. Phillips, professor of family and community medicine (Quincy); Mary Kay Reed, instructor in surgery; Barbara Schleicher, office administrator with Physicians & Surgeons; Agnieszka Szary, Ph.D., instructor in MEDPREP (Carbondale); and Michael Zoelzer, business manager in education and curriculum. One thirty-five-year award, 35 twenty-year awards, 31 fifteen-year awards and 51 ten-year awards also were awarded. Thirteen employees in Carbondale are being honored – Ronald A. Browning, Ph.D., professor of physiology (35 years); David G. King, Ph.D., associate professor in anatomy, and Shirley McGlinn, instructor in medical education (both 30 years); Agnieszka Szary, Ph.D., instructor in MEDPREP (25 years); Gaye Butler, nurse in family and community medicine, Charlotte Keller, office support associate in administration, and Sandra L. Shea, Ph.D., associate professor of family and community medicine (all 20 years); Michael Collard, Ph.D., associate professor of physiology, Jodi Huggenvik, Ph.D., associate professor of physiology, and Sarah Newlin, medical insurance specialist in family and community medicine (all 15 years); and Bridgett Mahan, ambulatory care aide in family and community medicine, William McDowell, natural science laboratory assistant in academic support, and Glenda Sullivan, office administrator in MEDPREP (all 10 years). Two employees at SIU Decatur Family Physicians in Decatur are being honored for their ten years of service – Dr. Cesar Arguelles, assistant professor of family and community medicine, and Dr. Susan Klein, assistant professor of family and community medicine. Six employees at Quincy Family Practice Center are being honored for their years of service – Durinda Meyer, nurse, and Dr. Debra M. Phillips, professor of family and community medicine (both 25 years); Elizabeth Parks, medical technologist (20 years); Kathy Sorrill, nurse (15 years); and Amy Hudelson, ambulatory care assistant, and Heidi Shaffer, medical transcriptionist (both 10 years). -30- |
