Ultrasound Program at SIU Med School Accredited

The ultrasound program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has been awarded accreditation for three years by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).  Accreditation recognizes that SIU’s program has met voluntary standards set for diagnostic ultrasound.

The program in SIU’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is directed by Dr. Robert Abrams, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology.  Kristine Greene is coordinator for the ultrasound and maternal fetal medicine unit.

SIU has seven physicians accredited to interpret ultrasound results.  During 2008 more than 7,000 obstetric ultrasounds and 1,100 gynecological ultrasounds were performed in the department’s clinic.
