SIU Med Students to Host Annual AMA 5K Race
The 16th annual American Medical Association 5K Race, organized by medical students at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, will be held Saturday morning, April 24, at Washington Park in Springfield. The race begins at 9:30 a.m.
Advance registration is requested. Registration forms are available from the Springfield Running Club. Entry forms also are available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. the day of the race at the Washington Park shelter just west of the tennis courts, off of South Grand Avenue.
The fee is $18 or $16 for online registration. There is a two-dollar discount for Springfield Road Runners Club members. Checks should be made payable to SIU School of Medicine and sent to SIU AMA 5K Race, Office of Student Affairs, P.O. Box 19624, Springfield, IL 62794-9624.
The race is a fundraiser sponsored by SIU’s student chapter of the American Medical Association. All race proceeds this year will be donated to M.E.R.C.Y. Communities in Springfield, which provides homeless and at-risk families with transitional living and comprehensive support services. The SIU race has resulted in more than $50,000 donated to local charities from previous races.
