SIU Medical School Elects New Alumni Board Members

Officers and four new board members have been named to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Alumni Society Board of Governors. 

Officers renewing for second terms are president, Dr. Doug Carlson, a pediatric hospitalist in St. Louis and a member of the Class of 1984; vice president, Dr. James Cunnar, a family medicine physician in Aurora and a member of the Class of 1994; secretary, Dr. Gary Rull, an SIU associate professor of internal medicine in Springfield and a member of the Class of 1998; and treasurer, Dr. Linda Allison, associate professor at Belmont University School of Pharmacy in Nashville, Tenn., and a member of the Class of 1981.

The new board members who will begin three-year terms are Dr. Robert Farmer, a family medicine physician in New Baden and a member of the Class of  1995; Dr. Nedra Joyner, an otolaryngology surgeon at the University of Chicago and a member of the Class of  1982; Dr. Elizabeth O'Brien, an internal medicine physician in Carlinville and a member of the Class of  1998; Dr. Erika Stalets, a pediatric critical care physician at the Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center and a member of the Class of  2001; and Dr. Matthew Winkleman, a family medicine physician in Harrisburg and a member of the Class of  2002.

The 20-member board represents the interests of the 2,268 graduates of the School and serves as the official vehicle for alumni to maintain personal and professional relationships to the School.  The board provides governance of the Alumni Society including oversight of the Distinguished Alumni Award program, Student Resource Fund and the School of Medicine Foundation’s annual alumni fund campaigns as well as advises on continuing medical education programming.
