SIU Medical School Names Student Class Officers

Seventeen fourth-year medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Class of 2010 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

SIU School of Medicine is a public medical school established in 1970 and focused on the health care needs of downstate Illinois.  An international leader in medical education, the school is based in Carbondale and Springfield and is specifically oriented to educating new physicians prepared to practice in Illinois communities.  Since opening, more than 2,200 physicians have graduated from its program.  Its Web site is www.siumed.edu.

SIU School of Medicine Class of 2010 Officers

• Sumer Allensworth, daughter of Kenny Allensworth of Quincy and Elaine Balmer of Hamilton, was elected chair of the senior class.
• Tyler Allison, son of Mel and Cheryl Allison of Riverton, was elected vice-chair of the senior class.
• Ashley Starwalt, daughter of David and Lori Starwalt of Mattoon, was elected secretary of the senior class.
• Kathleen Eichinger, daughter of Regina A. Eichinger of Springfield, was elected treasurer of the senior class.
• Gina Paulauskis, daughter of John and Sue Paulauskis of Glen Carbon, was elected as senior class representative to the student general assembly. 
• Joshua Turner, son of Randy and Cindy Turner of Belkamp, was elected as senior class representative to the student general assembly.
• Sameer Vohra, son of Dr. Saifi and Fatema Vohra of Westmont, was elected as a member of the Organization of Student Representatives.

• Valerie R. Roth, daughter of Michael and Vida Mazzocco of Champaign, was elected to serve on the doctoring committee. 
• Adam King, son of Dale and Sherri King of Mendon, was elected to serve on the admissions and the student advisory committees.
• Brandt Whitehurst, son of Curtis Whitehurst of Pleasant Plains and Lisa Chua of Spring, Texas, was elected to serve on the educational policy committee.
• Earl Barrientos, son of Drs. Joel K. and Melinda M. Barrientos of Centralia, was elected to serve on the information management policy committee.
• Jonathan Shirazi, son of Mohsen and Allyssa Shirazi of Tuscola, was elected to serve on the library advisory committee. 
• Richard Jeisy, son of Dr. Larry and Sue Jeisy of Elwin, was elected to serve on the student advisory committee.
• Chinelo Echeazu, daughter of Chuks Echeazu of Chicago, was elected to serve on the student progress committee.
• Kerri M. Lockhart, daughter of Linda S. Lockhart of Chicago, was elected to serve on the Year 3 curriculum committee.
• Christopher Lawrance, son of David and Anita Lawrance of Champaign, was elected to serve on the Year 4 curriculum committee.

• Sara Rubenacker, daughter of Keith and Nolene Rubenacker of Dahlgren, was elected chair of the junior class.
• Chris Slater, son of Douglas and Catherine Slater of Springfield, was elected vice-chair of the junior class.
• Bethany Kearns, daughter of Michael and Carmella Kearns of Springfield, was elected secretary of the junior class.
• Irene Meder, daughter of Richard and Helen Meder of North Canton, Ohio, was elected treasurer of the junior class.
• Mary Sterrett, daughter of Paul and Marguerite Sterrett of New Baden, was elected as junior class representative to the student general assembly.
• Adam VanderWall, son of Dr. William and Lynn VanderWall of Bloomington, was elected as junior class representative to the student general assembly. 
• Shariff Shakir, son of Linda Shakir of Harrisburg, was elected as a member of the Organization of Student Representatives and Year 4 curriculum committee.

• Esther Khatibi, daughter of Jafar Khatibi of Chicago and Zoe Khatibi of Melrose Park, was elected to serve on the student progress and Year 3 curriculum committees.

• Nicholson Chadwick, son of Stephen and Melinda Chadwick of Decatur, was elected treasurer of the sophomore class.
• Louis K.  Graham, son of Dr. Donald and Patricia Graham of Springfield, was elected as sophomore class representative to the student general assembly.
• Reem Nubani, daughter of Yaser and Nuha Nubani of Chicago, was elected as a member of the Organization of Student Representatives.

• Emma R. Volkman, daughter of Phillip and Barbara Volkman of Ashland, was elected secretary of the freshman class.
• Rosemary T. Owusu, daughter of George Owusu of Bronx, N.Y., and Irene Pokuah-Kumsi of Ghana, was elected treasurer of the freshman class.
• Timothy Ade, son of Dr. David and Sharon Ade of Moline, was elected as freshman class representative to the student general assembly.
