SIU Med School Awards Employee Recognition
Two civil service employees from Springfield and Decatur have been honored for exemplary work by Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Both were recognized during the School’s employee recognition activities this spring.
Carol Barnstable, a biofeedback nurse in the Department of Surgery, has been named the 2009 Civil Service Employee of the Year. She rejoined the SIU staff in 1998, having previously worked 11 years at SIU. Her nominators said “Carol excels as a pediatric urology nurse. Her knowledge, skills, hard work and dedication to her patients are indispensable. Carol has a great relationship with her patients and their families.” A resident of Springfield, Barnstable graduated from Lincoln Land Community College (1976), received her bachelor’s from the University of Illinois Springfield and certification through the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (2007).
Angela Brooks, a charge nurse at SIU HealthCare Clinic in Decatur, has been named the 2009 Civil Service Supervisor of the Year. She joined the SIU staff in 2008. Her nominators said, “Angela has an encouraging, positive attitude. She is always willing to listen and takes the input we give her into consideration when making decisions. She has a great attitude and is always smiling.” She graduated from St. John’s School of Respiratory Therapy (1995) and Lincoln Land Community College (2001). Brooks has two children and resides in Sherman.
