SIU Med School Sponsors Hispanic-Latino Ethnic Heritage Day

An Ethnic Heritage Day celebration featuring Hispanic and Latino cultures will be held Wednesday, September 16, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  The event will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Pearson Museum of the School’s main building at 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield.

The program includes a talk by Naomi Velazquez Greene, principal consultant in the English language learning division, Illinois State Board of Education.  Her talk, titled “The Juarez and Lincoln Legacies,” is about the relationship between Mexican President Benito Juarez and President Abraham Lincoln.

There also will be cultural displays and artifacts as well as tasting of foods from Hispanic and Latino cultures.

Ethnic Heritage Day celebrations are held regularly at the medical school to share information about various ethnic cultures.  The events are organized by SIU’s Diversity, Multicultural and Minority Affairs office.

For more information, contact Patricia Davis at 217-545-7243 weekdays.
