SIU Med School Announces Two Administrative Appointments
Dr. Erica E. Nelson, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been named director for the general obstetrics and gynecology division. She continues to serve as residency program director for the obstetrics and gynecology department in Springfield.
Nelson joined the SIU faculty in 1998. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and an internship in general surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University affiliated hospitals (1995, 1991). Nelson earned her medical degree at the University of Vermont (1990). She earned her bachelor’s degree at Pomona College (1985) and completed a research fellowship at the University of Southern California (1986). Nelson is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Alan J. Deckard, assistant professor of internal medicine, has been named chief of the division of general internal medicine. He works as a hospitalist, coordinating inpatient treatment for SIU patients at Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Deckard joined the SIU faculty in 2005. He completed his combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency and earned his medical degree at SIU (1993, 1989). Deckard earned his bachelor's at SIU Carbondale (1985). He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics.
