SIU Med School to Hold Literary Magazine Readings
The 17th annual edition of SCOPE, the literary magazine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, will be published this month. The newest edition of the magazine – published each year by SIU medical students – features 31 short stories, poems, artwork and photographs submitted by students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the medical school.
There will be two readings of SCOPE entries which are free and open to the public. The first will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the School’s South Auditorium (second floor), 801 N. Rutledge St., Springfield. The second will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Vachel Lindsay Home, 603 S. 5th St., Springfield.
At the first reading, medical students will announce the magazine’s award-winning entries in art, poetry and prose. The winner of the People’s Choice Award for the art category also will be announced during the first reading at the medical school.
Selected artwork submitted for the publication are on display at the SIU second floor lobby weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 to 27. Artwork from the magazine will be on display at the Vachel Lindsay Home Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 to 21.
