SIU Medical School Elects New Alumni Board Members
Five new board members have been named to the Alumni Society Board of Governors at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Their three-year terms begin in May.
The new board members are Dr. Gordon Grado, a radiation oncologist in Scottsdale, Ariz., and a member of the Class of 1977; Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson, an internal medicine physician in Chicago and a member of the Class of 1984; Dr. Adolfo Napolez, a general surgeon in Flossmoor and a member of the Class of 1981; Dr. Nicole Sommer, an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at SIU and a member of the Class of 1996; and Dr. Christine Waller, a general surgery resident at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and a member of the Class of 2008.
The 20-member board represents the interests of the 2,337 graduates of the School and serves as the official vehicle for alumni to maintain personal and professional relationships to the School. The board provides governance of the Alumni Society including oversight of the Distinguished Alumni Award program, Student Resource Fund and the School of Medicine Foundation’s annual alumni fund campaigns as well as advises on continuing medical education programming.
