SIU Med School Names Student Class Officers

Medical students have been elected officers, representatives and committee members for the Classes of 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.

Established in 1970, SIU School of Medicine is this year celebrating the 40th anniversary of its founding.  The School’s mission is to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health needs through education, patient care, research and community service.  Its Web site is www.siumed.edu and its main number is 217-545-8000.         

SIU School of Medicine Class of 2011 Officers

• Sara Rubenacker, daughter of Keith and Nolene Rubenacker of Dahlgren, was elected chair of the senior class.
• Suzanne Suprenant, daughter of Kim Stuth of Bourbonnais, was elected vice-chair of the senior class.
• Bethany Kearns, daughter of Michael and Carmella Kearns of Springfield, was elected secretary of the senior class.
• Adam Adruska, son of Gary and Linda Andruska of Marine, was elected treasurer of the senior class and to the doctoring committee. 
• Mary Sterrett, daughter of Paul and Marguerite Sterrett of New Baden, was elected as senior class representative to the student general assembly.
• Adam VanderWaal, son of Dr. William and Lynn VanderWaal of Bloomington, was elected as senior class representative to the student general assembly. 
• Shariff Shakir, son of Linda Shakir of Harrisburg, was elected as a member of the Organization of Student Representatives and Year 4 curriculum committee.

• Irene Meder, daughter of Richard and Helen Meder of North Canton, Ohio, was elected to serve on the admissions committee.
• Erin Schafer, daughter of Kevin and Michelle Schafer of Williamsville, was elected to serve on the educational policy and the Year 3 curriculum committees.
• Anthony J. Buecker, son of James and Christine Buecker of Peoria Heights, was elected to serve on the information management policy and parking committees.
• Norah Farley, daughter of Glenn and Barbara Farley of Waterloo, was elected to serve on the library advisory committee. 
• Marita Fisher, DuQuoin, was elected to serve on the student progress committee.
• Kimberly Dubois, daughter of Richard and Carol Dubois of Lacon, was elected to serve on the traffic appeals committee.

• Kari J. Oxford, daughter of Larry and Susan Oxford of Eldorado and Judy Oxford of Rosiclare, was elected chair of the junior class.
• Stephanie Shinn, daughter of John Shinn and Nancy Mettam of Danville, was elected vice-chair of the junior class.
• Kristina Lynch, daughter of Daniel and Linda Flynn of Chatham, was elected secretary of the junior class.
• Nicholson Chadwick, son of Stephen and Melinda Chadwick of Decatur, was elected treasurer of the junior class.
• Louis K. Graham, son of Dr. Donald and Patricia Graham of Springfield, was elected as junior class representative to the student general assembly.
• Reem Nubani, daughter of Yaser and Nuha Nubani of Chicago, was elected as a member of the Organization of Student Representatives.

• Alison Saulog, daughter of Pete and Lita Saulog of Salem, was elected to serve on the library advisory committee and to serve as volunteer coordinator for the class. 
• Daniel Normansell, son of Dan and Jean Normansell of Belleville, was elected to serve on the parking committee.  
• Keith T. Ferguson, son of Timothy L. Ferguson of Centralia, was elected to serve on the traffic appeals committee.
• Stephen D. Harmon, son of Dr. David and Lois Harmon of Jerseyville, was elected to serve on the Year 3 curriculum committee.

• Jeffrey A. Hassenflug, son of David Hassenflug of Edwardsville and Kathy Hassenflug of Glen Carbon, was elected vice-chair of the sophomore class.
• Emma R. Volkman, daughter of Phillip and Barbara Volkman of Ashland, was elected secretary of the sophomore class.
• Rosemary T. Owusu, daughter of George Owusu of Bronx, N.Y., and Irene Pokuah-Kumasi of Ghana, was elected treasurer of the sophomore class.
• Dhara R. Patel, daughter of Ramesh and Madhu Patel of Edwardsville, was elected as sophomore class representative to the student general assembly.

• Alex P. Michael, son of Brian and Kathleen Michael of Swansea, was elected vice-chair of the freshman class.
• Kristopher Yoon, son of Jong and Jae Yoon of Decatur, was elected secretary of the freshman class.
• Rachel L. Day, daughter of Gary Day of Champaign and Alice Day of Benton, Ky., was elected treasurer of the freshman class and a member of the student handbook committee.
• Deborah Kerrigan, daughter of John and Betsy Gensburg of Highland Park, was elected as freshman class representative to the student general assembly.
