SIU's Quincy Family Practice Center Receives Excellence Awards

The SIU Quincy Family Practice Center has received two Awards for Excellence from the Your Healthcare Plus program for providing quality medical care in both diabetes and coronary artery disease.  The awards are given to medical providers in Illinois who achieve high marks in recognized measures of quality for chronic conditions.

Your Healthcare Plus (YHP) is a Medicaid program that promotes and coordinates care for many Illinoisans with chronic conditions.  The YHP recognition is awarded to medical practices that achieve outstanding patient care at above standard performance levels according to specifications detailed for specific disease states.

"Delivering excellent care is a team effort that begins with the patient and the primary care physician but includes the rest of the medical team including mid-level providers, nurses and support staff," explains Dr. Carrie E. Nelson, YHP medical director.

"With these awards, the medical staff at SIU Quincy Family Practice Center, led by Dr. Tom Miller, is setting a strong example in this state for providing quality care for their patients.  There aren't enough awards for doing the right thing, so we are pleased to recognize this center."

The Quincy center, part of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, is among the first groups in the state to be recognized.

“I am pleased to accept this recognition on behalf of our physicians, resident physicians and support staff.  Physicians and providers from Quincy Medical Group, Blessing Physician Services, Blessing Hospital and independent practices are also part of our team and we appreciate their contribution in this recognition,” said Dr. Tom Miller, associate professor and director of Quincy Family Practice Center clinical operations.

“The unsung heroes in this award are our great dedicated patients.  Their acceptance of our efforts and commitment to the management of their chronic illnesses is amazing.  We thank them for their confidence in us,” he added.

The SIU Quincy Family Medicine Center, located at 612 N. 11th St., provides comprehensive family care, including maternity, pediatric and geriatric care, with approximately 32,000 patient visits annually.  The center has 11 faculty physicians, 19 resident physicians and 49 support staff who provide care for patients of all social and economic backgrounds.  Management of acute and chronic illnesses as well as disease prevention and screening are emphasized.
