SIU Med School Announces Templeton Scholarship
Michelle L. Hagene, a first-year medical student, has received a monetary award from the J.S. Templeton, M.D., Memorial Scholarship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The award is given annually to an SIU medical student from Perry County.
Hagene is the daughter of Leo and Diann Hagene of Percy. She is a graduate of Trico High School (2006) and Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she earned her degree in chemistry (2010).
The Templeton Scholarship was established in 1993 by Harriss Malan of Carbondale and Jane Templeton Minton of DuQuoin, in memory of their uncle and father, Dr. James Scott Templeton. Templeton was a general practitioner who practiced in the Pickneyville area for more than sixty years. He also was a founder of Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
