SIU Department of OB/GYN Ultrasound is granted reaccreditation in fetal echocardiography and obstetric/gynecological ultrasound by American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). We received the full 3-year accreditation. SIU continues to be the only academic institution in Illinois to be accredited in fetal echocardiography.

The SIU Board of Trustees approved promotions in academic rank and tenure for 53 faculty members effective with the 2014-15 academic year. They include from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology:

Sohail Siddique, M.D., Division Chief for Urogynecology, has passed the first ever Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) Subspecialty Board Examination.
The SIU Fertility and IVF Center’s Third Annual birthday celebration was held at Erin’s Pavilion at Southwind Park. Over 100 families participated at the event; it was great to see all of our babies growing up!
The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine and its Ultrasound Unit were accredited in Fetal Echocardiography through the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine. SIU is the only academic center in Illinois with this accreditation.
Becky Clinton was named SIU School of Medicine's July Civil Service Employee of the Month. Becky is an integral part of the MFM Sonography staff and the Department is quite proud of this well deserved honor for her.
The Fertility and IVF Center was awarded continuous membership in SART as a member in good standing, and the Embryology Lab in the Center received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists.

Drs. Doerr, Stehling and Hoefgen presented their resident research projects at the 79th meeting of CAOG in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Doerr gave an oral presentation on her work examining education for estimating blood loss after delivery. Dr. Hoefgen presented her poster on GYN surgery in the pediatric population. Dr. Stehling presented his poster on post-partum abnormal cervical screening follow-up. All three are congratulated on their success.

She recently completed a three year Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. We are very excited to have her as a part of our incredible team.

Our four year residency program currently is staffed by 15 resident physicians. Earlier this month we were awarded 4 year full accreditation status from the OB/GYN RRC. Also in early 2011 our program was granted accreditation to increase its permanent resident complement to 16, and we are adding residents every year to support 16 in July of 2013.

The SIU Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology would like to welcome our newest Physician Dr. Kristina Ericsson. Dr. Ericsson is a product of our own residency program who graduated in June of 2011.

>Baby Day 2011 was held Sunday August 28th and was a big success. The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine offered free 3D ultrasounds as well as a presentation by Mary Knox on female sexuality after pregnancy. Tickets were just $2 with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes.
The SIU Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology raised $234.00 for Enos School Supplies from casual days in July.
We would like to welcome our 4 new first year residents and 1 second year resident. Dr. Jesse Buedefeldt-Pollard, Dr. Courtney Cartwright, Dr. Dawn Kirkwood, and Dr. Sarah Rubenacker are our new first year residents. Dr. Vanessa Neimann is our new second year resident, bringing our resident physician total to 14.

We would like to welcome our newest Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Laurent Brard. Dr. Brard specializes in the care and treatment of women with cancers of the female reproductive system and will see patients at both the Carol Jo Vecchie Women's Center at St. John's Hospital and the SIU Simmons Cancer Institute.
