The Department of Ob/Gyn at SIU School of Medicine is a comprehensive clinical service and educational department, specializing in the health care of women both on a primary and referral basis. The SIU Physician’s and Surgeons is a multispecialty practice of medical care serving the patients of central and southern Illinois. SIUCARE is a Statement of Values that acknowledges the commitment and principles offered by the physicians and staff to our patients. The clinical services offered by the department include:

General Obstetrics and Gynecology providing a full range of general Obstetric and Gynecology services in the outpatient and inpatient setting. The department has ten full time generalist OB GYN physicians.

Gynecologic Oncology provides medical and surgical services to patients requiring special treatment of malignant diseases and tumors of the female reproductive tract. Dr. Gary Johnson is Chief of the Gynecologic Oncology Division. We are currently recruiting for a second Gyn Oncologist.

Maternal Fetal Medicine offers high-risk care for the pregnant woman. This is in association with the Springfield Perinatal Center located at St. John’s Hospital. The division consists of four perinatologists, the Chief of division is Dr. Andre Bieniarz.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is currently staffed by two physicians, Chief of Division, Dr. Gary Horowitz and Dr. Ricardo Loret de Mola. A new state of the art facility for the division is expected to open in September 2008.

Obstetric and Gynecology Residency Program has twelve full time resident physicians. The residents spend four years in the program and rotate through the specialty divisions as well as general OB and gynecology. The residents all have their own clinic with scheduled OB and gynecology patients throughout their four years in residency.
