Message From the Department Chairman
Hello, The SIU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is comprised of a dedicated group of healthcare professionals that provide health services to women in central and southern Illinois and united by a passion to enhance their quality of health through education, service and research.
To this goal we are committed to the training of physicians and specialists in obstetrics and gynecology in a university based environment mixing the rigors of academia with the combined experience of university and community based training programs. Our Department provides an innovative curriculum in Obstetrics and Gynecology supported by master’s level medical educators, advanced surgical models in laboratory settings and an extensive mentoring experience that initiates with a six week pre-residency course followed by close supervision throughout the training period with incremental levels of autonomy as milestones are reached.
We believe this leads to more experienced and qualified physicians to provide women’s healthcare and who will be capable of being certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We have initiated an exciting area of growth within the Department recruiting subspecialties in women’s health covering all the health care needs for women throughout their lifetime. In addition, our physicians serve as the perinatal center for central and southern Illinois, have new multi-disciplinary cancer and urogynecology programs and the most sophisticated and state of the art fertility center in the region.
Our general Obstetric and Gynecology specialists are well versed in all aspects of women’s health needs and can manage the most complex of medical and surgical problems. We are proud to be part of a very dynamic medical community.
