Iron Power !!!

Pregnant women need extra iron. You can help by eating foods high in iron. Your doctor may ask you to take an iron pills during your pregnancy if your iron level is low.

Food Sources of Iron

Meat and Meat substitutes

  • Meat
  • Liver
  • Peanut butter
  • Dried beans
  • Egg yolk

Fruits and Vegetables
  • Dark green, leafy vegetables(greens, kale, spinach)
  • Tomato juice
  • Raisins
  • Green peas

Breads and Cereals

  • Whole wheat bread products
  • Enriched cereals(Total, Cream of Wheat, Life, Raisin Bran, Wheat Chex, Oatmeal, Corn Flakes, Special K)
  • Cornbread
Here are some tips to help you eat more iron!

Tips

  • Eat foods that have iron with foods high in vitamin C like orange juice
  • Eat a food with iron with each meal or snack
Snacks with Iron
  • Raisins
  • Prune juice
  • Tomato juice
  • Chex mix
  • Granola
  • Dried fruit
