May 16, 2001 Meeting Notes

 

Present:  David S. Resch, MD, Chair; Terri Cameron, Staff; Rhona Kelley, MSLS; and Michael Shanahan, PhD

 

  • A memo will be sent to the EPC Chair, recommending that all faculty be solicited regarding interest in serving on this subcommittee.  There is particular interest in including representation from graduate medical education and in ensuring broad curriculum representation.  A student representative from each class will also be requested.  (A draft of the memo to all faculty will be attached for review by the EPC Chair.)
  • Areas for future discussion/activity by the subcommittee were also discussed:
    • Survey of all faculty regarding educational technology initiatives generated at the faculty level (e.g., software development, use of software/computers in the curriculum, online curriculum content/resources; computer-based testing)
    • Needs assessment for curriculum committees
    • Process for funding educational technology initiatives
    • Software issues
    • Hardware issues (students and faculty)
    • Institution of a technology fee for students vs. individual student purchase vs. institution-generated lease agreements for students
    • Training
    • Instructional Design for Online Curriculum Resources
    • Copyright Issues
    • Curriculum Media Database
    • Curriculum Database
  • Meetings of the subcommittee will be scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month (beginning July 2001), from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
