How to
learn more about the concept or a particular product The importance of ensuring that all participants know the objectives for the sessions was stressed, and it was suggested that an online registration mechanism be set up so that participants can notify organizers of specific needs. Rhona Kelley will report back to the subcommittee regarding what, if any, additional training the Medical Library will provide to augment these sessions. There was also discussion as to whether non-SIUSOM-supported software and protocols should be presented. The consensus was that, as much as possible, a brief overall of the most common software for each content area should be included as appropriate, with a short description of the pros and cons of each, and explanation of which software is not supported by SIUSOM and why.
·
Assessment Software Needs Assessment:
The Assessment Software Needs Assessment was distributed to all
curriculum committees with the following explanation: The Curriculum Committee Assessment Software Needs Assessment was developed by the Educational Policy Council/Information Management Policy Committee Information Technology Subcommittee. The IT Subcommittee is surveying all curriculum committees, as well as graduate and continuing medical education directors, to develop a comprehensive listing of assessment software needs. The ultimate plan is that there would be an Item Pool in which all faculty would contribute items linked to years, segments, disciplines, learning issues, keywords, etc., and which could be used across the curriculum to assess student retention of key concepts from year to year and into graduate training and practice.
Ms. Cameron reported that response to the Needs Assessment has been positive and
the topic has generated much productive discussion regarding assessment at
curriculum committees. Preliminary
results of the Needs Assessment were distributed to the Subcommittee for review. A final version of the results will be distributed at the
next meeting.
·
Review
of Survey Data: not discussed.

to 10:30 a.m. in the Lindsay Conference Room in Springfield and Lindegren 310 in
Carbondale. (Please note date
change due to January 1 holiday.)
