· Dr. Resch provided the following update on the April 24 Technology Education Session on Assessment Software. Four vendors provided demonstrations of their abilities to produce assessment software based on the Assessment RFP. Two vendors demonstrated existing software and how they would tailor that software to meet SIUSOM needs. One vendor had created an interface specifically for SIUSOM and demonstrated several critical processes. One vendor demonstrated other products developed for other institutions. Only one attendee completed an evaluation. Faculty in attendance requested a follow-up demonstration at which more detailed versions of the demonstrations would be provided. All faculty were invited to an open forum on April 26 to determine what three processes the vendors would be asked to provide. Based on feedback from that session, the four vendors were asked to return to SIUSOM on May 13 and demonstrate: 1) an question import program, 2) generation of an exam by keywords associated with the imported questions; and 3) a quintile report of performance on the questions. Two vendors withdrew their bids rather than continue to invest time and resources in the project with no guarantee of a return on their investment. The two other vendors will present their versions of the three processes at 3:30 pm May 13 in the South Auditorium in Springfield and Lindegren 310 in Carbondale.
· The Technology Fair Schedule was reviewed, and plans were made for the next few sessions:
o May 29: Educational Delivery Systems II: Claudia McIntyre will work with IR to identify presenters for streaming media. Lloyd Kirby from Surgery will provide a demonstration of how streaming media is used in the Surgery Residency Program.
o June 26: Decision Support Software: Dr. Resch will contact Memorial Medical Center to identify a presenter on this topic.
o July 31: Electronic Medical Records: Dr. Suzewits will work with the EMR Subcommittee to develop this topic.
o August 28: Telehealth: Deborah Seale has agreed to develop a session on this topic.
· Informatics in the Curriculum was briefly discussed. Terri Cameron has begun pulling information together from EPC discussions of this topic beginning in the early 80’s for review by the group. This information will be presented at the next meeting.
· The PDA Project was not discussed due to time constraints.
· The next meeting of the subcommittee is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Harbinger Conference Room in Springfield and Lindegren 310 in Carbondale.
