I.                    Review of Minutes

The minutes were reviewed and approved as written.

II.                  Review of core EVU values

There was discussion regarding the point value for Exam Case Development.
It was felt that case development should receive 8 units, the same as for Case development-shorter case.

There was also discussion regarding Clinical Instruction in Clinical Environment value and that it might be based on the number of students instructing. No change was made at this time.

The group decided that this plan would serve as a framework for discussion, not necessarily serve as the final plan.   It was suggested that a list of discussion points be included with the plan when it is disseminated to the faculty.

The category of Evaluation Activities and what exactly it includes was discussed and it was decided that this item should be included in the discussion list.

Other items noted that might need to be included on the EVU list for discussion include:

The group felt that the an explanation regarding the reason for as well as the purpose of this project be distributed to faculty as a "forward" to the plan at the time of dissemination.

There was also discussion regarding plans that measures other issues such as research.  Some faculty may feel threatened if such activities like research are not included. It may be useful to include information regarding plans for those activities in the forward for this plan.

The plan was edited as follows: (CHANGES IN BOLD)

III.                Plans to disseminate core EVU values for faculty discussion

The group discussed a plan to disseminate this information to the faculty, i.e. send to all faculty or send to department chairs. It was felt it was important to let faculty know that this is just the first iteration of several iterations in developing this plan.  It was also discussed whether or not it should be the chair of the departments or some other person who would be best to that lead the discussion of this issue with faculty.

The group decided that the plan should be sent to all faculty individually.

The group then discussed what type of feedback we would want from faculty.

It was stressed that the tutor group facilitator ‘face time' values are the foundation for other values and are not open to change. The faculty should then be able to tweak other values accordingly, but tutor group is the foundation in which all other units are based.

We would like for feedback to be sent back by individuals without names, just designate faculty ranking, degree, and an indication of basic science or clinical faculty.

It was suggested that three items be included in the feedback; I agree, I do not agree, but here are suggestions, or no opinion.

In addition, it was felt that the Dean should draft something to be included with the letter to address the reasons for the plan.

The plan will be to send the info electronically and on hard paper with the possibility of developing a database to assemble the information obtained.

The information should include an introductory letter (forward) and the chart we have developed.

Dr. Steward will draft the letter and communicate our intention to the faculty council and the Dean. In addition, a plan will be developed to tabulate the data. The forward and plan will be distributed to the EVU committee for approval before the plan is distributed to faculty.

IV.               Future meetings

Will be decided after receiving data.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Karen L. Reynolds RN, BSN
