EHR
Introduction
SIU
clinics are transitioning
from paper charts
to an electronic
health record (EHR).
The medical school
curriculum incorporates
a graduated approach
to electronic documentation
for students throughout
Years 2, 3 and 4.
Year 2 students are
given ‘view
only’ access
to electronic medical
records within SIU
clinics. In
addition, Year 2
students begin using
the EHR to document
portions of their
encounters with standardized
patients within the
professional development
lab. During Years
3 and 4, students
document patient
visits in the EHR,
utilizing student-specific
encounter forms.
