Welcome to the 12^th edition of SCOPE. This collection of poetry, prose and artwork continues the rich tradition of celebrating artistic expression within the SIU School of Medicine community.

As in previous years, our call for entries brought a tremendous response. These pages represent only a glimpse into the diversity of talent present within the SIU School of Medicine family. We regret that, due to limited space, we were unable to publish every submission.

This magazine would not have happened except for the efforts contributed by so many. We thank those who submitted their photography, artwork, prose and poetry. We hope that you will continue to create and share with us in the future. We are grateful to Dr. Phil Davis, Dr. Jacqueline Scolari, Karen Carlson and Jim Hawker for their expertise, wisdom, and guidance throughout the publishing process. Many thanks are due to Jean Afflerbach, Sally Deem and Lisa Waldeck for their assistance in this yearlong project. Dean J.
