SCOPE

The Student Literary Magazine of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

Volume V

Spring 1998

We are very proud to present the fifth annual edition of SCOPE. Five years ago, a group of medical students searched for a way to showcase the literary and artistic talents of the Southern Illinois University medical community. The product of their desire is SCOPE. Each year, the board of editors publishes original works of prose, poetry, and art created by the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families of the SIU School of Medicine. SCOPE receives more submissions than can he published, making the selection process difficult. There's a lot of talent in our midst!

We thank Dr. Phil Davis and Dr. Jacqueline Scolari, who dedicate their time as faculty advisors to SCOPE. We also thank Nancy Calvert, Kathy Dickman, Jan Heine, Jean Kirchner, and John Record for their time and assistance. Finally, we are indebted to SIU and Dean Carl Getto, M.D., for their support.

In commemoration of our fifth edition, we gladly dedicate this issue of SCOPE to Dr. Phil Davis and Dr. Jacqueline Scolari. The time they donate to this project is greatly appreciated.
