SCOPE

The Student Literary Magazine of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

Volume VI

Spring 1999

The inaugural edition of SCOPE was published in the spring of 1994. It was the endeavor of a group of fmt and second year students to publish a journal that would capture the creative side of those in the medical field that was apart from the world of textbooks, labs, diagnoses, and exams. We are proud to continue the dream of those students. With their vision in mind, we are excited to present to you the sixth annual edition of SCOPE.

Over the past six years we have received numerous excellent entries, and every year the reviewers and Editorial board have the difficult task of selecting the few pieces that will be published. We want to thank everyone who shared submissions with us and allowed us see his or her artistic side.

We want to extend our thanks to DL Phil Davis and Dr. Jacqueline Scolari for their guidance. Jan Heine and Sally Heckler have been invaluable with their advice and assistance. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to them. We also want to thank John Record, Dean Carl Getro, and the SIU-SOM community for their support, time, and energy.

This edition of SCOPE is dedicated to Jean Kirchner for her commitment and dedication to helping this journal achieve new levels of creativity and excellence and to everyone who finds a piece of himself or herself in SCOPE.
