Immunology Lecture

The cushions are starting to mutate

in morphology from contoured

containers of foam to rigid

maintainers of form.

My mind begins to meander around

in its many cavernous spaces

of random thoughts and

self-indulging fantasies.

Who am I to assume that my

inconspicuous ramblings desire

greater focus than the study

of MHC and glutarnic acid?

I stare at the board with glassy eyes

and robotically copy what is written

in front of me; later I will return

to my notes and attempt to translate

my scratches into comprehension.

For now, I am content to transcend

my walls of knowledge and contemplate

the vast array of ‘what ifs’ I create

in my life. How many more years?
