Clinging

A clinging desperation

Describes our present state

Of life in America today-

Half our dollars spent

On the last six months of life,

Yet Moses declared three score and ten-

Now is no different than then,

Except for

The ventilators,

Intensive care units,

Fifth generation antibiotics,

And multiple angioplastic stents . . .

Yet our strength is labor and sorrow.

Teach us to number our days

Instead of boasting in our progress.
