Operating Paper
-
Purpose/Responsibility:
The Clinical Competency Examination (CCX) Committee has the responsibility to oversee, develop, administer, review, and report results and analyses of the Senior Clinical Competency Examination.
-
Membership:
Committee appointments are made by the Dean on the recommendation of the Faculty
Council's Committee on Committees. A balance of faculty from different departments, representing clinical and basic sciences across all four years of the curriculum, are selected for committee membership. All committee members represent the general curriculum interests of the School of Medicine, not individual disciplines or departments. Decisions will be made in the best interests of the
institution's overall performance-based assessment system. The Committee includes four voting ex officio positions: Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum, Director of Statistics and Research Consulting (or his designee), Clinical Competency Examination Director, and Standardized Patient Program Director. Because we are unable to include students on the committee, SIU-trained junior faculty will be included to represent the student perspective for the Committee.
-
Chair and Vice-Chair:
The Chair and Vice Chair are determined from within the Committee membership by majority vote.
-
The Chair:
-
Schedules and conducts meetings of the Committee.
-
Creates standing and ad hoc subcommittees as needed.
-
Responds to other requests made of the Committee with appropriate action.
-
Represents the Committee to other standing and ad hoc committees of the School.
-
The Vice-Chair conducts any and all necessary business in the
Chair's absence. The Vice-Chair also chairs subcommittees and special projects or initiatives as determined in consultation with the Chair.
-
Meetings:
Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. Additional meetings are scheduled as needed for case review and review of student performance data. Due to the nature of the
Committee's work, faculty appointments are effective from November 1 through October 31.
-
Procedures:
-
Meetings are conducted using modified
Roberts' Rules of Orders.
-
Minutes and agenda are distributed prior to the meeting.
-
A simple majority constitutes a quorum.
-
Formal meeting business may be conducted in lieu of a quorum, but formal votes will not be taken.
-
All motions must be seconded before they can be discussed on the floor.
-
Formal votes are taken and recorded, usually by a show of hands. A voice vote suffices only for uncontested issues.
-
Proxy attendance is permitted and proxy votes are counted.
