Nutrition Subcommittee

At the recent EPC retreat, a recommendation was made to convene a Nutrition Curriculum Subcommittee.   The EPC recognizes the need for formal instruction in topics in nutrition and integration of such information with the rest of the curriculum.  Dr. Susan Hingle will be the Chair of this committee and will convene the meetings.  Dr. Hingle has provided an article for initial discussion, the link for which can be found at the bottom of the page.

CHARGE:

The subcommittee will convene in August or September 2007 and will provide quarterly reports to the EPC.  The EPC will determine when the final report is due, and expects that the committee work may continue into 2008.  The number and content of the meetings are at the discretion of the chair of the committee.

The committee’s work should be wide-ranging and creative.  It is expected that the current curricular elements related to nutrition be analyzed, and that the committee make recommendations for curricular change (including deletions, additions, reorganization, philosophical changes, etc).  The EPC also has interest in ways in which education in nutrition can be integrated effectively into the current curricular structure.  Thus, it is expected that the committee will consider all four years of the curriculum, including longitudinal segments (streamers) and the various examinations.
