At both the 2004 and 2005 EPC
Retreats, significant discussion centered around the
School of Medicine's Objectives for Commencement.
As preparations are made for the 2007 LCME
Accreditation Review, Year 1 through 4 courses will
be using these objectives to review individual
course objectives.
Based on the discussion at the 2005 Retreat, the
Year and Doctoring Directors, the vice-chair of the
EPC, and two student representatives, with Dr. Debra
Klamen as chair, will comprise a subcommittee with a
charge to establish a schedule for a regular review
of the Objectives for Commencement and ensure that
they reflect the mission and philosophy of SIU
School of Medicine, as well as current medical and
educational theory and content, and meet LCME
Accreditation Standards. To accomplish this charge,
the subcommittee should review the Objectives for
Commencement from other medical schools, the LCME
Accreditation Standards, and other sources the
subcommittee feels appropriate. The subcommittee
should plan to provide recommendations for a final
revision of the Objectives for Commencement to the
EPC at its May meeting for use by courses as they
prepare for the 2005-2006 academic year.
