Y3-Y4 Calendar Subcommittee
CHARGE:
Review the SIUSOM clinical curriculum in light of the following issues:
- Changes in some scheduling policies may allow for a more efficient and effective clinical experience.
- Medical students broadly have shown a great interest in greater flexibility in the Year 3 curriculum in order to more effectively explore the wide range of career options available to them.
- Consideration of economic forces, advances in information technology, and health care needs of individual patients and populations necessitates that we prospectively examine our curriculum and make needed changes to best meet the needs of our patients, students and faculty.
Special attention should be given to current scheduling of the Year 3 clerkships and a unified philosophy and scheduling for Year 3 and 4 rotations. While the EPC has not identified a need for major overhaul of the Year 3 and Year 4 curriculum, the Task Force should consider all possible options as it reviews the curriculum in Years 3 and 4.
Formal recommendations should be submitted by the Task Force for the October 2004 EPC meeting.
