About

Hani Ghawi, MD, MS, FAAP, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) in the Pediatric and Fetal Cardiology department. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar and worked as an attending pediatric cardiologist at Sidra Medical and Research Center and Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Ghawi received his medical degree from Al-Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad, Iraq. He completed his Pediatric trainings at Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar as well as at Louisiana State University health Science Center, Shreveport LA. He finished his Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. During his fellowship, he earned a Master degree of Science - Major in Clinical Research.  After his fellowship, Dr. Ghawi, completed his advanced training in non-invasive imaging - transthoracic and fetal echocardiography - at University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center - Dallas, Texas. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of American Society of Echocardiography. He is married and has one son. He is certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. His main interests are noninvasive imaging - fetal echocardiography - and general pediatric cardiology.
