Adolescent Medicine

Dr. Steven Bowers supervises the adolescent medicine rotation. He is board certified in Adolescent Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Bowers organizes the rotation and coordinates the resident's experience amongst the various clinics, sites, and instructors.

Dr. Bowers utilizes his own private practice for the resident's weekly adolescent clinic. He interacts routinely with the individuals involved with the various teaching aspects of the adolescent medicine rotation.

Dr. Bowers also has regularly scheduled adolescent medicine noon lectures with the pediatric residents. During the adolescent medicine rotation, residents are exposed to the full range of adolescent general medical and surgical problems, including:

• Primary Health Care for Teens and Young Adults:
  Routine examinations for school, sports, employment, summer programs, and care for acute illnesses
• Routine Sports Medicine
  Examinations, Evaluation of minor sports injuries
• Adolescent Behavior Problems
  Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, school problems
• Eating Disorders Evaluation and Treatment
  Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa
• Reproductive Health
  Family Planning, Prevention, Evaluation, and treatment of sexually transmitted Infections
