Before Your Appointment
Welcome! We look forward to seeing your child at
SIU Department of Pediatrics. We have a few suggestions to help
us provide better service to you and your family:
- Before your appointment, we request that your child's medical
records be sent from your primary care physician and any specialists
your child may have seen, so that we are as up to date as possible
regarding your child's medical condition.
- Please contact your insurance company to find out if a written
letter of referral is required from your primary care physician.
You should also know at which hospital outpatient laboratory testing
is covered under your policy.
- New patient visits are frequently longer than return visits,
so please plan accordingly. This allows us to maximize your child's
experience by reviewing previous records, lab studies, imaging,
and discussing your concerns in detail. It is important that you
arrive on time for your appointment so that your child will have
the benefit of the full appointment time. If you are unable to
keep your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible to
cancel and/or reschedule.
- Driving directions are available - please see our side menu
bar.
- We pride ourselves in being a teaching institution. Please know
that your child's physician may be accompanied by a medical student
or a resident physician receiving specialized training in pediatrics.
We hope this experience will be rewarding for all involved
- Checklist to bring to appointment:
o Any required letter of referral

We look forward to working with you and your family.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can serve you better
