The Center for Hearing and Balance is a full service Audiology facility
committed to serving central and downstate Illinois in the comprehensive
care of hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders. We are part of
the Division of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery located at
St. John's Pavilion.
There are professionals specializing in infant and pediatric hearing
evaluation, hearing handicap/communication assessment, evaluation
and fitting of hearing aids, and rehabilitation, as well as, balance
and dizziness evaluation and treatment. Our services are provided
in conjunction with the otolaryngologists (Ear, Nose, and Throat
Doctors) at SIU School of Medicine. Referrals are also accepted
from other physicians and professionals. We are also associated
with the St.
John's Hospital Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program.
The Hearing and Balance Center proudly announces
the addition of the Cochlear Implant Program to the services offered
for the deaf and hard of hearing. Cochlear implants are indicated
for use by adults and children over 1 year of age who have significant
hearing loss that is not effectively treated with conventional hearing
aids.
