Genetics

The SIU Genetics Division provides clinical genetic counseling services to patients within central and southern Illinois. The services we provide include prenatal and reproductive risk counseling, cancer risk counseling, and genetic counseling for a personal or family history of a genetic condition.

The SIU Genetic Counselors are available to provide genetic counseling services for the following indications:

• Patients with a personal or family history of cancer that are interested in pursuing genetic testing
• Children born with a known chromosome condition or genetic syndrome that requires genetic counseling in the diagnosis and management of the condition (ex: Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, etc.)
• Pregnant patients with abnormal ultrasound findings, abnormal screen results, or family history of a genetic condition
• Newborns with an abnormal newborn screen for cystic fibrosis
• Patients with a personal or family history of a known genetic condition
