Neurology
Michael R. Pranzatelli, MD, is Division Head and Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at SIU School of Medicine.
He is also Director of the Pediatric Muscular Dystrophy Clinic in Springfield. Dr. Pranzatelli completed his
pediatric residency at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio and his pediatric neurology training at the
University of Colorado. He also did a three-year research fellowship in neuropharmacology at the University
of Southern California's Children's Hospital. Dr. Pranzatelli is certified by both the American Board of
Pediatrics and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His specialty is pediatric movement disorders.
Hossam H. AbdelSalam, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at SIU School of Medicine.
He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt, in 1995 and completed a pediatric residency at
Cairo University Children's Hospital. After his pediatric residency at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical
Center in Brooklyn, New York he then completed a Child Neurology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland,
Ohio, in 2006. Dr. AbdelSalam is board certified in General Pediatrics. His special interests are in pediatric headache,
epilepsy and pediatric neuro-intensive care.
Theodore Sunder, MD, is Professor of Clinical Neurology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry and Director of the Child Neurology
Clinics at SIU School of Medicine. A graduate of the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1972, he was trained
in Pediatrics at The Children's Hospital of the District of Columbia and in Child Neurology at Duke University Medical
Center. He is board certified both in Pediatrics and in Neurology. Dr. Sunder is also the Medical Director at the
Hope School in Springfield. He specializes in epilepsy and epilepsy and behavioral disorders in persons with
developmental disabilities.
Elizabeth D. Tate, FNP, C, MN, is a Nurse Practitioner and neurology faculty member at SIU School of Medicine. She is a
graduate of George Mason University School of Nursing and received her Masters of Nursing from the University of
California at Los Angeles in 1985. Ms. Tate is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She co-founded
and is clinical manager of the National Pediatric Myoclonus Center. Her expertise is in the area of pediatric movement
disorders.
Diane C. Wildrick RN, FNP, is a Nurse Practitioner and clinical instructor of neurology at SIU School of Medicine.
A graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ms. Wildrick completed her Bachelor of Science
degree in Nursing at the University of Illinois in Springfield. She received a Masters of Science in Community Health
Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner from SIU Edwardsville in 2000. Her special interests are epilepsy and neonatal
neurology.
