Julio A. Copello, Ph.D. Associate Professor telephone: 217-545-2207 jcopello@siumed.edu |
| Research Interests We study the process of intracellular calcium signaling in muscle and heart physiology. In these tissues, large and transient increases in cytosolic calcium are regularly induced by excitatory processes. This calcium then triggers the contractile machinery as required for the heartbeat or for the muscle twitch. Read More > |

Shelley Tischkau, Ph.D. Associate Professor telephone: 217-545-6524 stischkau@siumed.edu |
| Research Interests Dr. Tischkau's lab focuses on the molecular interactions of the circadian clock in disease states. Two major projects are ongoing. The first investigates molecular mechanisms underlying endogenous resistance to excitotoxicity in clock neurons. The second explores the interface of the clock with metabolism, specifically with reference to the development of metabolic syndrome after exposure to environmental toxins. Read More > |
