Use Of Proteomic Analysis Of Serum Samples For Detection of Non-Small Cancer

Purpose of trial:

Collection of data to determine the effectiveness of work groups and support groups in reducing the psychiatric symptoms, improving feelings of hopelessness, and reducing self-blame after having lung cancer surgery

Protocol Summary:

This study is looking at the proteins in the blood to see what information can be obtained about the presence of a tumor and if it is cancer or not, the recurrence of cancer, length of survival or completeness of tumor removal in patients undergoing non-small cell lung cancer or an unknown lung lesion. This process is called proteomic analysis. In addition to this we will also collect tissue samples as well to compare with the blood with the hope that we might be able to identify new markers for cancer. Tissues will be kept at the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group Central Specimen Bank and the samples of blood and tissues will be used in the future for research to learn more about cancer. This study is sponsored by the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group
