Clinical Offerings Dual Diagnosis Clinics The Division of Developmental Disabilities operates a psychiatric outpatient clinic for people with “dual diagnosis” (developmental disability and a co-diagnosis of an additional psychiatric condition, such as bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders including PTSD and obsessive compulsive disorder, and psychosis). Psychiatrists with expertise in this population provide the psychiatric services. Because of high demand for these services and the extensive time required for each clinic, individual are often referred through the technical assistance program. Referrals from agencies and referring physicians are also considered. Due to the limited 3rd party payment for this population, Medicaid and/or Medicare, as well as other 3rd party payers are accepted. A typical new patient evaluation consists of an intake with a faculty clinician, completion of a thorough intake packet by the referring entity, and an evaluation within the outpatient department in Springfield, that lasts approximately 2 hours. Follow up psychiatric services are available to persons who live within a reasonable distances from the clinic. Consultations are also available with special arrangements.
