Research in the Division of Developmental Disabilities

Jacksonville Developmental Center - Staff

As reported by the Surgeon General’s Report on developmental disabilities; closing the Gap, enhanced research in the field of developmental disability health care is an important factor to improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

The Division of Developmental Disabilities strives to develop clinical research models that focus on improving the quality of health care delivery and the better understanding of mental retardation and the many co-morbid psychiatric and related health care conditions.

In all maters regarding research, regardless of how minimally intrusive the project may appear, all research activities involve collaboration with the individual, family members and guardians.  All clinical projects must be approved by our local IRB, which is experienced in the field of developmental disabilities and enlists advocates for people with intellectual disabilities.

For more information regarding our research efforts or to discuss collaborative possibilities, please contact Sandra Vicari, PhD at (217) 545-8228 or by e-mail at svicari@siumed.edu
