Mary Dobbins, MD ...
... joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in psychiatry and division chief of child psychiatry, specializing in child psychiatry. She recently completed a psychiatry residency at SIU (2006) and a three-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City (2004), where she was also a visiting faculty member in pediatrics.
Previously, Dobbins was in private practice in Quincy (1998-2001) and served as director of the Springfield Regional Center for Breastfeeding Medicine and medical director of the breastfeeding management clinic at St. John's Hospital in Springfield (1993-2001). She was on the medical school's faculty as assistant professor of pediatrics and coordinator of newborn services (1993-98). While in private pediatrics practice in Springfield, she was an SIU volunteer pediatric faculty member (1987-93).
Dobbins was a visiting faculty member at Wellstart International at the University of California in San Diego, while completing postgraduate work in breastfeeding medicine (1993-95). She completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia (1987) and earned her medical degree from SIU (1984).
Dobbins is board certified in pediatrics and board eligible in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and American Psychiatric Association. She also is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, serving on national committees for both organizations. She is a past president of the Illinois Downstate Pediatric Society. In addition to her ongoing research on consultation services for primary care physicians, Dobbins is developing the SIU telepsychiatry program.
