Michelle Gates, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry

About

Dr. Gates obtained her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University in 2014. In addition to her generalist psychology training, she has specialized training in health psychology.  Dr. Gates completed a post-doctoral fellowship in psycho-oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2015.  Additionally, she has experience in solid organ transplant psychology as well as primary care behavior health.  Dr. Gates joined the faculty of the Psychiatry Department's Division of Clinical Psychology in the Fall of 2015.  She holds an outpatient psychotherapy clinic and also provides consultation services to oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Her research interests include health-related beliefs among the general population as well as psychological distress and resilience among cancer patients.
