Pan, M.D. Chief, Division of Forensic Psychiatry The Division of Forensic Psychiatry is a part of the Department of Psychiatry within the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Faculty in the Forensic Division are available to confer on a wide range of forensic psychiatric issues. Criminal forensic issues include fitness to stand trial, mental state or sanity at the time of an offense, competency to waive Miranda rights, and sentencing / mitigation. Civil forensic issues include guardianship, independent psychiatric evaluationsfor disability, malpractice, and fitness for duty. Our faculty in Springfield include: Philip D. Pan, M.D. serves as the Chief of the Division and holds Added Qualification in Forensic Psychiatry, per the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the Isaac Ray Center at Rush University Medical Center. His forensic practice primarily focuses on criminal issues, having extensive experience as a staff psychiatrist at Forensic Clinical Services of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Criminal Division. Stephen W. Robinson, M.D. holds Added Qualification in Forensic Psychiatry, per the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at New York University. Prior to coming to SIUSOM, Dr. Robinson had served as the Deputy Clinical Director of Forensic Services for the State of Illinois, and Director of Forensic Psychiatry at Northwestern University Medical Center. His forensic practice focuses upon violence and suicide risk assessment, psychiatric malpractice, professional fitness for duty, and criminal forensic issues. Manisha Punwani, M.D. is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who gained extensive experience in regards to forensic psychiatric issues during her Child and Adolescent Fellowship training at the University of Massachusetts. She is currently the Unit Chief of the Adolescent Forensic Unit at McFarland Zone Mental Health Center, the only such unit in the state. She has developed a Family Forensic Clinic, which focuses on parental capacity evaluations. The department also has several faculty psychologists who are available for consultation and administration of standardized psychological and neuropsychological instruments. |
