EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS WITH MENTORS

All students are required to meet with their assigned mentor at a minimum
of once during the first 2 weeks to discuss H&P write-ups, required paper,
or other issues or questions regarding the psychiatry clerkship. If you feel
this is a beneficial relationship, you can continue weekly for the remainder
of the clerkship. Suggested student/mentor topics include:

Objectives and note Facilitation/Resource column that applies to
mentors and discuss with mentors accordingly.
  • Mentor will serve as contact/liaison. Mentors will assess your
progress and will address any issues/problems you may have.
  • Mentor will teach and review the MSE and MMSE with you.
  • History taking for psychiatric patients will be discussed.
  • Treatment planning.
  • Biopsychosocial approach.
  • Discuss psychopharm - see Learning Objectives Numbers 18-23.
  • Any questions you have about patients and/or topics related to your
    clinical experience.
