Message from Stephen M. Soltys, M.D., Professor and Chair, SIU Department of Psychiatry
Thank you for visiting our website. Founded in 1972, we are maturing into an organization that provides high quality clinical treatment, outstanding teaching and solid efforts in research and community service. In this website, you can find out more about our faculty and our various clinical divisions.
The Adult Services Division (Philip Pan, M.D., Director) provides a comprehensive array of outpatient and inpatient psychiatric services to adults. Outpatient services include a psychosocial service rehab clinic called the Community Support Network that provides intensive psychiatric and case management services to adults with severe psychiatric illnesses. Vinod Alluri, M.D. provides psychiatric care via local mental health centers in Macoupin and Montgomery Counties as well as at our clinic in Springfield. Inpatient services (Robert Pary, M.D., Director) include acute inpatient services at Memorial Medical Center (James Black, M.D.) and St. John's Hospital; substance abuse services through Memorial Medical Center and a teaching affiliation with the state hospital, McFarland Mental Health Center. Our Developmental Disabilities Division (Rod Curtis, M.D., Division Chief) is among the strongest in the country and has a national reputation as an innovator of developing systems of care for the developmentally disabled as well as an active research program. The Jacksonville Development Center (Klara Curtis, M.D.) is a key training site. The Child Psychiatry Division (David Decker, M.D., Division Chief) is rapidly growing with the recent additions of Ayame Takahashi, M.D., Mary Dobbins, M.D. and Manisha Punwani, M.D.. In January 2008, our first Fellows began training in our new fully-accredited Child and Adolescent program. The Forensic Psychiatry Division (Philip Pan, M.D., Division Chief) provides forensic services in Springfield and at state facilities in Alton, Chester and Anna (Choate) (J. Srinivasaraghavan, M.D.) Mental Health Centers. We have a fully-accredited four year general psychiatry training program as well as a five year medicine/psychiatry program. Jeffrey Bennett, M.D., is the Director of the Residency Program. David Resch, M.D., is the Director of the Medicine/Psychiatry Division in the Department of Internal Medicine. We continue to be a leader in student training and education research with the psychiatric clerkship being directed by Robert Pary, M.D. An active continuing education program utilizing telepsychiatry opportunities to share clinical information throughout the country is coordinated by Ron Kanwischer, L.C.P.C., C.A.D.C.
