Ruta Kulys, LCSW


We welcome Ruta Kulys LCSW, the new Director of the Community Support Network. Ms. Kulys received a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in New York in 1989. She worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Cornell Medical Center and at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She spent many years in private practice. She comes to us from Memorial Counseling Associates where she integrated yoga and meditation with individual and group therapy.




Psychiatry Receives Reaccreditation


SIU's Department of Psychiatry has received a four-year reaccreditation from the Council on Accreditation. The achievement shows the department met high performance standards and is delivering superior quality services to patients.

Welcome Hillary LaMontagne, LCPC, CADC

Hillary LaMontagne, LCPC, CADC


Hillary LaMontagne has been working in the mental health field since 2002. She earned her Master of Arts in Human Development Counseling from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Hillary has extensive experience working with individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues in inpatient and outpatient settings conducting individual and group psychotherapy. She specializes in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Hillary enjoys working with individuals dealing with depression; bipolar disorder; anxiety; OCD; personality disorders; substance abuse/dual diagnosis; codependency; divorce; grief/loss; trauma/abuse; women's issues; major life changes and clients who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning (GLBTQ).

In Recognition


Congratulations to Stephen Soltys, MD, Professor and Chair, and Jeffrey Bennett, MD, Chief of the Adult Division and Clerkship Director for being voted the most professional faculty personnel in the Department of Psychiatry. They were chosen by the 2013 graduating medical students.

This recognition is based on the attributes of professional behavior according to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
